Oh What a Journey!

My life has been filled with new beginnings.......a new marriage, Hurricane Katrina, surgeries, etc.

At 65 years of age I am in the process of another new beginning......a healthy life with a substantial weight loss.

My weight has increased since I delivered my first daughter, Danielle, in 1969. I have always loved to cook and eat (I feel they just go together)! I just have been eating whatever I want without regard to whether or not it was good for my body.

I knew about good nutrition since I was an R.N. but I chose to ignore the nutritional
guidelines even when I began taking blood pressure medications in my 20s. Adult onset diabetes followed this last year.

Now, the information regarding my weight loss!  On my own, no meds or exercise, I have lost 28.5 pounds since 3/5/15 in preparation for my Bariatric surgery in August!
I will be having the Gastric Sleeve! Google it if you are interested in the particulars.

The psychologist that I saw as part of the program told me that I will probably lose 125 lbs.
To say that I am excited is such an understatement!!

I would be remiss if I did not tell you my reasons for having this surgery. Definitely not for vanity reasons but to be taken off most of my prescribed medications, to walk more easily, and most of all to be MORE HEALTHY!

There is definitely a psychological aspect to weight loss!  As women, we all like to feel good in our clothes.

I do have some concerns regarding the post-op effects of such weight loss!
#1 is where will all the leftover flab go????? I believe I know the answer.
Down the road after acquiring the funds I see possibly more surgery in my future.

Also getting enough nutrition daily will be a challenge! But fortunately all the foods I need to eat I already love.

I am hoping that my experiences on this journey will inspire others to make a change  to live more healthy!
